Kevin Feige Comments on “The Defenders” in the Official MCU

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has given some response to whether Charlie and the members of THE DEFENDERS will officially appear in the MCU. That includes Finn Jones (Danny Rand/Iron Fist), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), and Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/The Punisher). Read below.

Marvel CCO Says Netflix’s Defenders Characters Are On the Board For Potential MCU Return

Marvel Studios is about to make their biggest splash into the entertainment industry since the end of the Infinity Saga, starting off with Disney+’s WandaVision at the end of the week. This will begin a year in which nearly every single week will come with new MCU content between the movies and Disney+ shows, and this trend will likely continue in 2022 and beyond.

Now that Phase 4 is about to bring dozens of new characters into play for the MCU, including the teams acquired in the Fox/Disney merger from 2019, the on-screen saga is set to expand into a true representation of the comic books with interactions and action never imagined before. Currently, however, this doesn’t include the characters from Marvel’s Netflix series like Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Defenders ensemble show, which have mostly been seen as a “black sheep” of sorts within the franchise.

However, all hope may not be lost for the Defenders team, according to recent quotes from Marvel’s head man.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel CCO Kevin Feige took some time during the WandaVision press junket to address the future of the characters from Marvel TV’s Netflix series. Feige’s quotes indicate that characters like Daredevil and Jessica Jones may still have a future within the larger MCU.

When asked if such Netflix characters are still in play, Feige stated:

“Everything is on the board. That’s one of the fun things about the comics is that characters would appear and disappear and come and go. All of it is inspiration for the future. There are some great characters and actors from those shows.”

The Marvel Netflix shows have always had a strange relationship with the larger MCU, with plot points that both connect them and separate them from what happens in the movies. However, it should be an encouraging sign that Feige isn’t putting them on the shelves to gather dust after their run on Netflix ended.

With 161 episodes centered around Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cake, Iron Fist and the Punisher, it seems like it would be a huge mistake to move on from their stories within the MCU after so much build-up. The main question to ponder, should such characters see their arcs continue, is if they will move directly from the Netflix shows into the movies or if they will be reintroduced as new versions of the heroes from the comics. Whenever this resolves itself, the biggest hope is that Marvel keeps this way of thinking and brings the Defenders into the fray in a meaningful fashion.

Currently, the closest indicator of their return is the rumor that Charlie Cox will reprise his role as Daredevil in the upcoming Spider-Man 3.

New Charlie Cox Siting in New York City

Here are some images of Charlie filming THE DEFENDERS in New York City. Also featured is Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) and it looks like the two of them are having a lot of fun. Honestly, can the summer come any quicker? I can’t wait to see Finn Jones in Iron Fist, then Charlie, Krysten, Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Finn (Danny Rand) next summer. Also included in THE DEFENDERS will be Elden Hensen (Foggy Nelson), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle / The Punisher), Elodie Yung (Elektra), Scott Glenn (Stick) and superstar Sigourney Weave in an as yet to be announced character. Please keep an eye here for further updates on the various Netflix Marvel shows.

The Possibility of Matt/Daredevil Showing Up In a Marvel Film …..

Charlie has stated there is still not talk about the possibility of him taking Matt/Daredevil onto the big screen. Personally given the success of the show, I’d say Marvel would be insane not to transfer Charlie and the other actors into the larger cinematic universe. I mean you have Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and her background with True Blood, then Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson) and his success with the Hunger Games films, then you have Elodie Yung (Elektra Nachios) and her big screen presence already established, then there’s both Ayelot Zuerer (Vanessa Marianna) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk) and their big screen successes, and who can’t believe that Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/Punisher) aren’t big screen worthy? The entire cast and show are ready to make that transition. The show is that good. So come on Marvel, let’s bring Deredevil into that pantheon of our Earth’s Greatest Heroes.

Daredevil won’t show up in a Marvel movie, says actor Charlie Cox

The British actor says there has been “no conversation” about making the leap from Netflix to movies such as the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War”.

It doesn’t look as though Daredevil or any of Marvel’s TV heroes will show up in the comic book giant’s movies anytime soon. With “Captain America: Civil War” uniting a vast cast of big-screen heroes in just a matter of weeks, “Daredevil” star Charlie Cox has ruled out an appearance.

“There was no conversation about joining any of the movies,” the British star said, adding that he would jump at the chance to appear in a Marvel movie. “Who wouldn’t want to be in the highest-grossing film of all time?”

“Civil War” is already stuffed to bursting with Marvel heroes, as Captain America and Iron Man lead opposing factions into a superpowered dust-up. New faces include Black Panther and a new version of Spider-Man, so adding Daredevil into the mix might be a bit much. Still, we’ve got a lot of love for Daredevil and his pals on Netflix, and it would be fun to have the small-screen superheroes stretch their superpowers on the big screen at some point.

Cox was speaking on stage at a showcase event here in Paris held by Netflix, the streaming service that produces “Daredevil”. Netflix executives and actors from its shows are in France to spotlight new productions, including the company’s first French and British shows.

“Daredevil” was the first of four Netflix shows to feature a Marvel hero, followed by “Jessica Jones” which debuted last year, “Luke Cage”, which is due in September, and “Iron Fist”, which is currently in production. Once all four have aired, the heroes will unite as super-team The Defenders in an eponymous mini-series, also on Netflix.

Unless he shows up in “Luke Cage” or “Iron Fist” — and with an appearance in “Civil War” apparently ruled out — “The Defenders” will be the next time we’ll see Cox in costume, as the miniseries will arrive before series three of “Daredevil”.

Cox describes the various Marvel-Netflix series as “very different shows…I’m interested to know how tonally they will become one.”
